A few tips for staying warm this winter

Winter is fast approaching and temperatures are beginning to drop but there are a few things you can do to ensure a warm home throughout these months. We want all our customers to be warm, comfortable and secure this winter which is why we want to be sure your boiler is as prepared for the cold weather as you are. There is nothing more comforting than stepping out of the cold and into a cosy home – but if your boiler decides to break down you could be in trouble.

These are a few things you can do to prevent any inconvenience.

CHECK/SERVICE YOUR BOILER

With the fantastic weather the summer has brought us in 2018, it’s fair to say not many of us will have been using our heating systems. This is a great time to make sure things are still running smoothly before the cold weather kicks in. Boilers should be serviced annually but even if it’s not quite due one there’s no harm in booking one in preparation for winter. Any serious problems with a boiler could lead to a replacement so it’s best to get things checked early.

INSULATE CONDENSATE PIPES

If your condensate draining pipe is on the outside of your home, make sure it has been insulated. If temperatures drop below freezing, the water inside the condensate pipe can freeze and cause a blockage which will then lead to a boiler breakdown. Pipe insulation will minimise heat loss and keep the water above freezing point.

GAS CHECK

Gas checks are recommended annually for the safety of everyone living in your home. Make sure this is carried out by a Gas safe registered engineer. It is also important to have a working carbon monoxide detector in place.

PROFESSIONAL SERVICE

It’s important when having any kind of work done to your central heating system that it is carried out by a qualified and experienced engineer. This will not only give you peace of mind but also ensure you wont have any unexpected breakdowns.
