An introduction

 

There are many reasons to opt for an air source or ground source heat pump. Recent television programmes have highlighted the effects of ‘global warming’ or ‘climate change’ and the warnings are now clearer than ever.

When we burn fossil fuels, or use products that have fossil fuels in the chain of production, harmful CO2 is released. As the CO2 levels build in the atmosphere, the ‘greenhouse effect’ increases and leads over time to global temperature increases. As we now know, this leads to a whole host of issues which are changing our planet for ever.

It is clear that by reducing the amount of fossil fuels that we use as individuals, the more impact we as individuals will have in reducing harmful CO2 released into the atmosphere slowing down and perhaps reversing global warming.

Air or ground source heat pumps can be installed to work with your existing heating boiler. Simply put,  these pumps extract heat from the air or ground and introduce this heat into your home. It may be that if your home is extremely well insulated that the external heat pump may provide all the heat and hot water you require, however it may be more sensible to have your existing (or new replacement boiler) available to contribute to the heating mix to maximise your comfort and on demand requirements.
